Enter the January Contest
January 21, 2008
Leave a comment on this post to enter for a chance to win the book Area (thanks for the idea, David).
A little bit about the book:
Following in the footsteps of Cream and Fresh Cream, 10×10, Blink, and Spoon, Area is an up-to-the-minute, global overview of graphic design. This image-filled book presents the work of 100 of the world’s most innovative emerging graphic designers, showcasing work from such wide-ranging projects as corporate identity, poster design, book design, packaging, typography and CD cover design. The 100 designers were selected by a distinguished group of 10 curators from around the world- all highly established and influential figures in the field of graphic design. Each curator selected and wrote about 10 exciting talents whom they consider to have made a name for themselves on the international scene over the last five years.
Why Area? I love design books, and this one was recommended all over the web. It can be very inspiring, or at least thought provoking, to look at what’s considered “the best”. And since I wanted a copy, I figured, hey, why not offer a second copy as the monthly contest?
Mention a design you’ve seen that you think is either very, very good or horrid and be entered twice!
Good luck! Contest ends on Friday, January 25th at 5pm.

Sounds like something I would love to read! :)
One of the worst designs I’ve seen would have to be my futile attempt at making something! lol I’m a terrible designer :D

Next time you’re over, remind me to show you this children’s book:
It’s one of the ones Eliza got from K as a Christmas gift. It’s very 1970s. The author/artists work with green and a sort of orangey-pink-y color and very plain lettering. It’s very spare, and funny, and I think the elements go together nicely.

I can’t wait to see the book, elizasmom. You’re in for 2!

While doing research for something today at work, I came across this horrible example of bad web design..and it’s for a DESIGN tradeshow!!

As well as this very nice interactive map on another jewelry website…good use of logo for repeated branding on the site I thought.

i finished a logo for the “WAILERS” Bob Marley’s band.. this is one of the bet logo i have done..
i wanted to do something different and found these images with optical illusions and decided to add a little illusion of my own to the logo.. when the word “W” is turned upside down it reads “LOVE”..
this is the url for the logo (it’s the 4th one from top to bottom), enjoy:

I know terribly little about design but wanted to let you know I think the spread you did for Create was awesome!

Thanks for entering, Tina. You’re right, nothing on that jewelersresource.com web site says high end or well designed to me.
Thanks for the link to your work, Ney. I always enjoy designs that have a hidden message, and “love” is so appropriate for the Wailers.
Aw, Meredith, I’m blushing! Thanks!!!
Ney and Meredith, you guys were a little late for the contest, but thank you for commenting! I’ll be posting another contest in February,
